Litigation and Advisory Services
The Office of the Attorney-General is a 'one-stop shop' for all the legal needs of Government Departments, Statutory Bodies and Government Commercial Bodies and Companies. The Litigation and Advisory Services division plays a significant role in the orderly running of all the Government machinery to achieve the desired goal of good governance. A Government needs to know the rule of law and act according to it.
Unlike Government legal offices in developed countries, where most of the work of the office is briefed out, the Attorney-General's Chambers in Fiji undertakes all legal work for the Government itself.
The Litigation and Advisory Services Division is established in all the divisions of the country. We have three separate offices - in Suva, Lautoka and Labasa. All legal work in the central and eastern divisions are handled by the central Office in Suva, which is headed by the Solicitor-General.
All legal work in the Western Division are handled by the Lautoka Office, which is headed by the Principal Legal Officer. This Office provides legal representation to all Government departments and Government officials located in the Western Division, and handles litigation in the Lautoka High Court and the Magistrates' Courts from Sigatoka to Rakiraki.
The Labasa Office is responsible for all providing legal advice and representation in the Northern Division. For legal representation, the Labasa office attends to all matters in the Labsa High Court and in the Magistrates' Courts in Labasa, Savusavu, Taveuni and Nabouwalu.
