Office of the Attorney-General Continues to Strengthen Legal Services Across Government
17 July 2026The Constitutional Review Commission (CRC) has fulfilled its Terms of Reference with the submission of its Review Report on the 2013 Constitution, together with the Draft Constitution of the Republic of Fiji 2026.
The Chairperson of the Constitutional Review Commission, Mr Sevuloni Ratumaiyale Valenitabua, formally presented the Commission’s Report to His Excellency the President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, at the State House today.
Following the formal presentation by Mr Valenitabua, His Excellency the President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu presented a copy of the Report to the Prime Minister, Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka.
The Prime Minister, Hon Rabuka will now table the Report in Cabinet for deliberation before it proceeds to Parliament in accordance with the appropriate constitutional and Government processes.
The Acting Attorney-General, Honourable Siromi Turaga, said it was important to clarify the process following today’s submission, particularly in light of misinformation and speculation surrounding the Report.
Hon Turaga said the submission of the Report marked the completion of the Commission’s mandate and does not mean that the recommendations contained in the Report or the Draft Constitution had been adopted or approved by the Government.
“The Report represents the independent work of the Constitutional Review Commission following an extensive nationwide consultation process. It must now go through the appropriate Government processes before any further decisions are made,” Hon Turaga said.
He said the Report cannot be released publicly at this stage and will be made available to the public in due course, following Cabinet deliberation and once the appropriate process has been completed.
Hon Turaga acknowledged the commitment and work of the Commissioners and staff members throughout the review process.
He also acknowledged the contribution of constitutional and legislative experts who supported the Commission’s work, including Professor Anthony Regan, Dr Kathrene Le Roy and Ms Fiona Leonard.
“Given the importance of this process, it is essential that we allow the appropriate constitutional and Government processes to take their course.
“We urge the public and all stakeholders to refrain from speculation about the contents of the Report or its possible outcomes until it has been properly considered.”
