Munro Leys
Jon Apted is a Partner at Munro Leys, Suva, and one of Fiji’s most experienced public law practitioners. He holds degrees from the University of Auckland (LLB), the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (MA), and Harvard Law School (LLM). Admitted to practice in New Zealand and Fiji in 1986, Jon has held key roles in government legal service, including Parliamentary Counsel, Permanent Arbitrator, Sugar Tribunal and Supervisor of Elections for the 1992 and 1994 elections. He was one of the two legal counsel to the Fiji Constitution Review Commission chaired by Sir Paul Reeves whose report led to the 1997 Fiji Constitution.
At Munro Leys, Jon advises and litigates in constitutional, employment, commercial, and intellectual property law and recently appeared for a party in the Supreme Court reference which considered whether the 1997 or 2013 Constitution was effective and the proper construction of the amendment chapter of the 2013 Constitution. Jon is also a frequent presenter and commentator on legal issues in Fiji.
