Ela Tukutukulevu is from the village of Bouwaqa, Vatulele, Nadroga. Vasu i Nagasauva,Tawake, Cakaudrove. Ela spent her childhood – teen years in Labasa and she relates well to being called a “kai Udu” – (no offence to the paternal side of the family).
Prior to joining the Department of Social Welfare, Ela was a high school teacher at St. Bedes College, Savusavu and Tabia Sanatan College in Labasa for 4 years. She also worked for the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Labasa for 1 year and was a part-time tutor at the USP Labasa Campus.
Ela joined the Department of Social Welfare in 2001 as Welfare officer 1 Community Economic Development Officer and later seconded as a Family Court Counselor from 2005 – 2007, at the Labasa Family Court. She has also served as a Senior Welfare Officer in the North (2009 – 2010) and Senior Welfare Officer North West Division (Ba, Tavua & Rakiraki – 2011.
She was appointed the Assistant Director Child Services in 2012. She is currently in- charge of Policy and Planning at the Department of Children. She has a Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Sociology, Management and Public Administration and Post- Graduate Diploma in Development Studies, from USP.
She currently resides in Suva and she has 3 sons, aged 27, 21 and 19 years old. Her sons are from the village of Naivucini, Naitasiri.
