MS NEOMAI MARAVUAKULA
Team Leader Governance & Institutional Strengthening
South Pacific Community
Neomai Maravuakula is the Team Leader Governance & Institutional Strengthening with the Human Rights and Social Development Division of the Pacific Community (SPC). With more than a decade at SPC, she has driven high-level technical support to Pacific governments on human rights, gender equality, social inclusion and broader governance reforms. She also oversees the Regional Working Group on the implementation of family protection and domestic violence legislation, guiding regional collaboration and legal reform efforts to strengthen protections for women and families across the Pacific. This year, she led the team behind the first-ever Pacific CEDAW session, which brought the CEDAW Committee to Fiji for its inaugural review of Pacific countries – a historic step in bringing UN treaty bodies closer to the region and the communities they serve.
Ms Maravuakula began her career in private legal practice in Fiji before moving into human rights and development with the Fiji Women’s Rights Movement, where she focused on family law, ending violence against women and advancing women’s rights across the Pacific.
